Notice of termination of employment

Statute lays down minimum notice periods for termination of employment. If the notice is given by the employer, the minimum notice period is:

            Length of service                    Minimum notice period

         Less than 1 month                                         Nil

         1 month – 2 years                                      1 week

                2-3 years                                              2 weeks

and an additional week for each year of continuous employment to a maximum of 12 weeks.

If the notice is given by the employee, the notice period is 1 week.
